The Trust and Hospitals

We are an NHS Foundation Trust of around 850,000 people, providing care for the population of Gloucestershire and beyond. The Trust provides acute hospital services from two large district general hospitals, Cheltenham General and Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. We also provide Maternity Services at Stroud Maternity Hospital and a range of outpatient clinics and some surgery services from community hospitals throughout Gloucestershire. The Trust also provides services at the satellite oncology centre in Hereford County hospital.

Our vision is to provide the Best Care for Everyone.

Our purpose is to improve the health, wellbeing and experience of the people we serve by delivering outstanding care every day.

Foundation Programmes

Dedicated consultants, varied case mix of patients and a strong reputation for structured education makes Gloucestershire one of the best places to start and progress your career.

Our foundation programme is a well supervised programme dedicated to the education and development of foundation doctors. The F1 year is three 4-month placements, one of which will be in Acute Care (Acute Care Unit or Emergency Medicine). This placement helps to improve your management of the sick patient in a supervised team.

Our educational supervisors have been selected and trained to help you in your foundation training. Tuesday afternoon is dedicated teaching on a diverse range of subjects, alternating between F1 and F2s. Each department also has their own regular teaching programmes.
