Regional Teaching Programme 2013 / 2014

Severn’s Regional F2 Teaching Programme was established in 2007 and encourages foundation trainees to experience training as part of the Foundation School. The regional teaching programme enables us to use faculty members who are keen to deliver proven educational material as required by the Foundation Curriculum.

The Regional programme also offers an opportunity for trainees to network, which has always been recognised as an important part of professional development. The programme culminates with an Innovation Day offering foundation trainees at F1 and F2 level the opportunity to present their work and receive regional recognition.

The programme uses days from the study leave allocation.  Study Leave needs to be agreed and booked prior to booking onto courses.  Places are allocated on a first come first served basis and bookings must be made via the MLE (Managed Learning Environment) system. For more information, see the
F2 MLE Booking Instructions.

Mandatory core F2 Training - (minimum of 60 hours)

All F2’s must achieve a minimum of 60 hours of core F2 training utilising a combination of Regional training days and In-house Trust-based teaching. In practice, this equates to 70% attendance of in-house teaching, plus 4 regional training days. The relative proportion of Regional to Trust training will vary depending on your Trust and also your availability during a given attachment e.g. it may be hard to attend Trust teaching during Emergency Department shift work. Therefore, if you have limited Trust teaching attendance, the time can be made up by attending more than 4 Regional days. You should still attend all appropriate training opportunities provided within your Trust such as Grand Rounds, departmental meeting, x-ray and MDT meetings. However, these do not count as 'core foundation training'.

Regional Teaching - (minimum requirement—Clinical Skills Day)

All F2’s must attend the Clinical Skills day (which is held in UH Bristol, NBT or Bath) and Human Factors (run at UH Bristol & Taunton). Both of these days book out quickly and you are urged to book as soon as possible. Each regional teaching day counts as 7 hour towards your mandatory 60 training hours over the year. Only specific In-House F2 training and the 'workshop' days listed on MLE count towards this, not ALS or other study days organised by you. Therefore, we encourage you to take advantage of as many Regional days as you are able. This will greatly assist achieving your minimum of 60 hours; as well as providing a ‘day off site’ for bleep-free, protected training with fellow F2s from the region. Please check the start time for each course and plan your journey accordingly. You will need to leave a valid email address with the course organiser at the end of each day to confirm your attendance. Your Certificate of Attendance will then be emailed to you for you to upload onto your e-portfolio.

In-house Teaching - (aim for 70% where possible)

Many Trust programmes provide 45+ hours training. Therefore, by attending 70% or more of in-house teaching, only the requisite four Regional days are needed. Please refer to your PGME department for details of In-House Teaching.

Review Trainee Feedback of the programme

PLEASE NOTE:

It is crucial that you attend a minimum of 60 hours training. This is carefully scrutinised at your ARCP and is a pre-requisite for being signed off. Therefore, please monitor your hours carefully as we won't be able to sign you off without this minimum attendance.
Non-attendance to any regional days without a good reason will be fed back to your Educational Supervisor to be discussed at your ARCP. Please ensure that your email address is up to date at all times.
